Canadian Work Visas

We can assist you in choosing your alternatives and the best immigration stream that is open to foreign workers if you want to work in Canada but are unsure where to begin. Anyone who wants to work in Canada, temporarily or permanently, must secure a valid work permit.

Obtaining A Work Permit in Canada

A work permit is a document issued by immigration, refugee, and citizenship (IRCC), known as a work permit that typically entitles the holder to perform a specific job exclusively for the employer named on the permit. A work visa may be open-ended in some circumstances or restricted to a particular place and time of employment. It's critical to know at the outset of the application procedure what category your future job will fall under and what qualifications you must fulfill for your application to be accepted.

Regular Work Permit (Employer Specific)

The most typical procedures and prerequisites for obtaining a work permit are:

  • Get a job offer from an eligible Canadian employer
  • The employer has to apply and go through the LMIA Application
  • Be eligible for a job in Canada (have no criminal record, pose no threat to national security, do not work for ineligible employers, be in good health and be prepared to leave Canada when the permit expires

OPEN WORK PERMIT

If you've been listed in an application for permanent residence or an application for permanent residence based on humanitarian or compassionate reasons, you might be qualified for an open work visa. The application must here fall into one of the following groups:

  • Federal Skilled Worker
  • Federal Skilled Trades Program
  • Canadian Experience Class
  • Provincial Nominee Program
  • Family Class
  • Caring for Children Class
  • Caring for People with High Medical Needs Class

You can work for any employer with this type of work visa unless the organization is listed as ineligible on the list of employers who failed to meet the requirements. Your job placement is not constrained to a particular employer with this type of work permit.

Overall, obtaining a work permit might take a few weeks and a few months, starting with the application, getting an LMIA from your prospective employer, and receiving the actual documents. It is also based on the job you are applying for. Your position may qualify for a two-week application process if it falls into the managerial, executive, or professional categories.

Exemptions

Jobs which do not require work permit:

  • Foreign Representatives and their family members
  • Military Personnel
  • Foreign Government Officers
  • On-Campus Work
  • Performing Artists
  • Athletes and Team Members
  • News Reporters and Media Crews
  • Public Speakers (only non-commercial speakers)
  • Convention & Conference Organizers (excluding technical workers & personnel)
  • Members of Clergy
  • Judges, Referees and Similar Officials involved in sports and arts activities
  • Examiners and Evaluators
  • Expert Witnesses or Investigators
  • Health Care Students
  • Civil Aviation Inspectors
  • Crew Members
  • Emergency Service Providers
  • Farm Workers

Sadly, your work permit application process may need some help. It can be challenging to receive a job offer from a Canadian company since not all employers are ready to endure the waiting period and the LMIA application procedure, which involves more time, effort, and paperwork.

This is one of the many reasons why you should work with VisaStan, both for employers seeking to hire foreign workers and for foreign workers themselves. In addition to providing immigration consulting services, we also serve as an employment agency, bringing together employers and potential employees while assisting with process optimization and correctly facilitating the necessary documentation.
