When boarding a flight to Canada or traveling to Canada on any other commercial airline, permanent residents (PR) of Canada must have their valid permanent resident card (PR card) or permanent resident travel document (PRTD) with them.
If you do not carry your PR card or PRTD, you may not be able to board your flight, train, bus or boat to Canada. When you return from a trip outside of Canada, you must check that your PR card is still in effect and apply for a new one before your old one expires.
To be eligible for a PR card, you must:
